Projects
Our Mission:
To help the very poor of this island with basic needs.
To respond to emergency calamities within hours of their occurrence.
To stem out Malnutristion, and thus improve health and education of children
Ongoing Projects :
In August 2015 we launched our 'ZERO Malnutrition' program in Maasin City, Southern Leyte
After one month we have 62 children been fed twice daily with fortified food. We expect this to rise to 600 in the coming year, subject to donations. It costs us only about $6 per child per month to feed them two meals of FMSC MannaPack fortified food each day
Our partners, RSM bring the food into The Philippines from the US. We pay them only their costs for shipping & customs. We have the food collected in RSM's Manila warehouse and shipped to Leyte.
One of our feeding sites. The Children live on the dumpsite.
Yummy yummy! Thank You
Projects Completed so far:
The aim of the charity is to help indigent (very poor) families rebuild their lives, by rebuilding their simple homes.
Our first building project was in Sityo Boho, Barangay Tugas, Tabango, Leyte. Here we built 31 houses for approximately 200 people.
In Tolosa, Leyte, we have built 51 houses, housing another 300 people
We then built a further 30 houses in Dapanas, Tabango and 17 in Maasin, housing another 200 plus people
In early 2015 we built 11 aditional houses in Boho/Dapanas.
Soon after we built 12 houses in Brgy Del Norte, Villaba.
16 houses in Pasay, Maasin.
In July 2015 be built 25 houses in Brgy Pasil, Malitbog following the massive fire there. These were built with funding from our US partners', Outreach Asia
We have now completed these houses, taking our grand total to 167, and we are planning a further 10 in August
Our chainsaw gang cut the fallen trees into 4"x4", 4"x2", 3"x2" and 2"x2". If there is no lumber available, we purchase locally. My carpenters then build a 12' x 10' house frame. We cover the roof with 14 sheets of galvanized corrugated sheeting, plus capping. We then supply the house owner with 11 sheets of plywood, nails and paint to finish off their house themselves. Each house costs €400. Our funding to date has totally come from my friends and family in Ireland, The UK and several other countries around the world.
We have no administrative costs except the diesel in my own private car, food for my workers and I, and phone etc. These charges are already calculated into the price of the houses.
We also supplied Kitchens for 40 people evacuated to Maasin the week after Yolanda.
Other projects include school supplies, clothes, and kitchen utensils in Tabango and Tolosa.
What's Next?
More of the same, subject to funding. Please visit our Donations Page. We will continue on the same mission of helping the very poor of this island. We would also like to set up some projects to enable the very poor get out of the poverty trap, by helping them to help themselves.
